Salwan Public School, Rajinder Nagar hosted the United Religions Initiative North Zone Conference on 25th April 2009. Over 80 representatives of URI Cooperative Circles from all over North India participated in the Conference with the aim to promote peace and inter-faith understanding.
The Conference began with an uplifting all religions peace prayer sung by the SPS choir group. Members of ISKON then made the whole gathering sway to their beautiful bhajans.
After the reading of the URI Preamble by Mrs. Vandana Puri, Prabhu Makhan Lal from ISKON enlightened the gathering with his address focusing on the uniqueness and potential that each individual has.
Then members of the various CCs interacted with each other and discussed issues like Gender bias, Aggression among today’s Youth, Regionalism, Communal disharmony, etc.
In his address Dr. Gangnegi, Coordinator North Zone CCs expressed his gratitude to the outgoing Global Trustee of URI – Dr. Mahinder Singh and welcomed Mr. Sushil Dutt Salwan as the new Global Trustee of URI. After this Mr. Sushil Dutt Salwan shared his vision for URI.
Next, the student members of URI Salwan CC expressed their views on various religions and peace after which the representatives of different CCs elaborated the activities undertaken by them since the last meeting. Finally members of the CCs got together in their respective groups and discussed the agenda for the coming year.
