Salwan Public School, Rajinder Nagar hosted the United Religions Initiative North Zone Conference on 25^th April 2009. Over 80 representatives of URI Cooperative Circles from all over North India participated in the Conference with the aim to promote peace and inter-faith understanding.

The Conference began with an uplifting all religions peace prayer sung by the SPS choir group. Members of ISKON then made the whole gathering sway to their beautiful bhajans.

After the reading of the URI Preamble by Mrs. Vandana Puri, Prabhu Makhan Lal from ISKON enlightened the gathering with his address focusing on the uniqueness and potential that each individual has.

Then members of the various CCs interacted with each other and discussed issues like Gender bias, Aggression among today’s Youth, Regionalism, Communal disharmony, etc.

In his address Dr. Gangnegi, Coordinator North Zone CCs expressed his gratitude to the outgoing Global Trustee of URI – Dr. Mahinder Singh and welcomed Mr. Sushil Dutt Salwan as the new Global Trustee of URI. After this Mr. Sushil Dutt Salwan shared his vision for URI.

Next, the student members of URI Salwan CC expressed their views on various religions and peace after which the representatives of different CCs elaborated the activities undertaken by them since the last meeting. Finally members of the CCs got together in their respective groups and discussed the agenda for the coming year.

Female Foeticide is a heinous crime which plagues our society today . The drop in the sex  ratio is alarming .  Creating awareness among people especially  the youth is the need of the hour. Students of our school participated in a rally against female foeticide organized by Jain shwetamber terapanth mahila mandal   on 7^th march  2009. The student walk with the procession  holding banner and urging the people to stand together and raise their voice against female foeticide .

On 20^th of February members of URI  were invited by the American centre to visit the exebition on martin luther king junior  to celebrate the 50^th year of his visit to
India. The students  were able to see for themselves the similarities between  martin luther king jr and mahatma Gandhi and how this great leader of USA  was inspired by the father of the nation. The students were also shown the famous “ I HAVE A DREAM” speech of Martin Luther King  junior.

The URI members collected warm clothes for children from PALNA  an orphanage.

URI members made arrangements for the school fee of  visually challenged students.

The URI  members have decided to present a petition against terrorism to the President of India Ms PRATIBHA PATIL. A signature campaign was launched in which all the students participated extensively.

The URI members celebrated the international  day of peace in school. Students were asked to light candles outside  their  homes  to mark the day. They observed 1 min silence in the memory of those who had lost their lives due to terrorism.
